Saxophone
Greg Capozzi

In fourth grade, Greg’s school principal needed clarinetists for the concert band. That was the beginning. He studied privately, earned first chair in the high-school wind ensemble and taught himself saxophone in middle school. By high school, he was performing in the Brockton High School jazz band.
At Boston College, Greg started getting paid to play in cover bands around Boston while performing with the BC jazz band. Those tours took him to Club Med Cancun, Walt Disney and Epcot Center. After selling out shows at the Paradise Rock Club and playing plenty of dive bars, he sent a demo tape to Carnival Cruise Lines and joined the pit orchestra on clarinet, flute, tenor sax and bari sax. More than two years at sea meant practicing all day and gigging every night.
Back on land, Greg auditioned for Rippopotamus, Boston’s reigning funk band in the late 1990s. The eight-piece original band combined four horns, jazz, funk and rock and led to a performance at the Montreal Jazz Festival.
When Rippopotamus ended in the early 2000s, C-Zone was born. Greg brought together cocktail-hour jazz trio sets, DJing and live sax, often playing while he DJed. He has fused recorded and live music since 1999, long before the DJ-and-sax combination became a social-media favorite. Ask for Greg and bring the energy of live sax to your party.
